What is a wheel well?

A wheel well is a space in the body of a vehicle that houses the wheel and tire. It is usually located in the front and rear of a vehicle and can also be referred to as a fender well. The purpose of the wheel well is to protect the wheel and tire from debris and other road hazards, as well as to provide support for the vehicle's suspension system. The well is usually lined with a plastic or metal shield to reduce noise and prevent corrosion from road salt. Some vehicles have auxiliary storage and tool compartments located in the wheel well area. The size and shape of the wheel well will vary depending on the type of vehicle and the size of the wheels and tires.
